Rotterdam’s well-known Hofbogen are acclaimed around the world. They are listed in Lonely Planet as one of the most innovative projects in Rotterdam and even have their own website. Have you ever been there? And what do you really need to know about it all?
History of the Rotterdam court arches
The court arches (officially the Hofplein Viaduct) have existed for more than 100 years. The Hofplein Viaduct was originally the starting section of the Hofplein Line. Opened in 1908, this line connected Rotterdam to The Hague and Scheveningen. Until 2010, trains ran over the 1.9-km-long viaduct. Today, in the arches under this old railroad line, you can find unusual hospitality, design and fashion.
Hotspots in the Hofbogen
There are many hot spots to visit at the hofbogen, in fact too many to mention. For example, you can grab a bakkie pleur at Man with Glasses or go on a gastronomic journey at FG Food Labs. Eaten too much? Then afterwards, you can do some Kung Fu at Xia Wuan, work out at Crossfit Hofplein or train at Tai Chi Chuan. Would you rather do something else? Then you can also choose to use your energy and redecorate your home with the stuff from North Sea Design and Elok furniture making. So there is plenty to do!

You can also go up on the roof!
On the roof of Hofplein Station you will find Luchtpark Hofbogen. Here you can enjoy lots of greenery in the center of Rotterdam! Lounge in the grass, have a nice picnic, or sit on one of the fifty artificial sheep. All while enjoying magnificent urban views. Hofbogen Airpark is open every day from 10:00 a.m. to sunset. Airpark Hofbogen has already been the setting for numerous large and small cultural events in recent years. For example, the roof is one of the locations of Motel Mozaique and the Rotterdam Roof Days. Wunderbaum had a theater performance here, Roffa Mon Amour organized a film festival and Conny Janssen gave a dance performance.
Accessibility
Hofbogen is only a 5-minute walk from Rotterdam Central Station. Furthermore, there is also a parking garage nearby. Would you like to see the Hofbogen from above first? Then start your day at Dakakkers atop the roof of the Schieblock. From Europe’s largest city farm, you can see Hofplein Station in all its glory. Then walk via the yellow walkway Luchtsingel to the starting point of the Hofbogen: Hofplein Station.
